About shoulder and arm pain

Shoulder and arm conditions are characterised by movement restriction in the shoulder, elbow or wrist. This is usually accompanied by a sharp or dull ache, burning pain or pain in your arms or forearms.

Causes of shoulder pain

Arm pain can be due to overuse (repetitive strain) or traumatic injury. Arm pain can also be a sign that another part of your muscular skeletal system is misaligned – such as your neck.

Osteopathic treatment

Shoulder and arm pain is usually treated with a soft tissue massage around the surrounding muscles to decrease tension/ restriction. The joint is then mobilised and scar tissue is broken down (if appropriate). You will be prescribed specific stretches, tailored to your circumstances and ability.
